Tirafkan was born in Iraq in 1965 from Iranian parents. He graduated with a degree in photography at the University of Tehran in 1990. He has had several solo exhibitions, most recently at the Silk Road Gallery, the Lee Ka-Sing gallery in Toronto, Canada, the Lehmann maupin Gallery in New York, and Galerie Vu in Paris. He has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions- Contemporary Art Platform, In Focus, London, Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris, Gold Coast City Art Gallery, Australia, Honolulu Academy of Arts, Honolulu, Hawaii, Art after the Revolution , San Sebastian, Musulmanes, Musulmans, Parc de La Villette, Paris, Group show, Unique(s), galerie VU, Paris and Regards Persans, Espace Electra, Paris.
